Workshop inspires students’ love of literature

More than 70 students from eight schools across the Far West took part in a day of literature which will hopefully light a spark that will lead to a lifelong love of books.

The students took part in a literary workshop, a collaboration between the Bourke High School and West Words, an organisation which promotes literacy in disadvantaged schools.

The workshop’s special guest was renowned children’s author Lisa Nicol, who took the students through engaging exercises which she hopes will inspire them to keep reading and writing.

The workshop was a rare occasion for the youngsters to interact with an author and learn about the process of creating, writing and publishing. The students also have the opportunity to write their own book, have it published and see it in print at an official book launch later in the year. […]
