Women excel at Bourke Meatworks

This International Women’s Day, the Australian Meat Processor Corporation through the More to Meat campaign is shining a light on the important role that women play in red meat processing.

At the Bourke small stock abattoir operated by Thomas Foods International (TFI) women are achieving outstanding results.

Three women in particular – Miyu Ishikawa from Japan, Aime Tapatfeto from Indonesia, and Putu Sari – also from Indonesia – are all making strides at the TFI goat processing facility.

The plant has been a significant boost to Bourke’s economy since an investment in the local community by Thomas Foods International.

The opening of the plant took NSW’s goat processing rates up by almost 5,000 per cent and brought on new employment opportunities, bringing new life to Bourke.

Miyu Ishikawa is originally from Osaka, Japan and found herself in Bourke after falling in love with Australian culture and regional communities.

Now, at Thomas Foods, she holds the record for most goats processed in one day! As the first female supervisor of a processing floor in Bourke, Miyu is considered one of the best. […]
