Wearing pink to support breast cancer fundraiser

The Bourke community is being encouraged to get decked out in pink to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Pink Ribbon Day has a special link to Bourke and will be held at the Bourke War Memorial Swimming Pool on Saturday 24 October. Organiser Lisa Rankmore, who was inspired to help a former resident, is fundraising in honour of his mother, who died from breast cancer 30 years ago.

Adam Daburger’s mother Leanne passed away from breast cancer when he was just a child. His aunty Maree Weldon has been a tireless fundraiser for breast cancer services over the past three decades and Adam is continuing to support the cause.

Lisa said she was inspired by Adam’s efforts to organise a local fundraiser in his former hometown by holding a Pink Ribbon Day at the Bourke Swimming Pool.

“Last year at the pool, we held a blue day for diabetes, and it was a big success, so this year we decided to do a Pink Ribbon event,” Lisa said. […]
