Water security is non-negotiable

The Louth community is once again pushing back against proposed changes to local weirs by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), citing concerns about long-term water security and a lack of genuine consultation.
Last year, the DCCEEW proposed lowering the Louth Weir by 400mm to accommodate fish passage infrastructure. After strong opposition from locals, the department was told bluntly to “go away and come back with a plan that doesn’t lower the weir.”
Last week, department representatives returned to Louth with a revised plan to lower the weir by 100mm instead. However, this new offer has also been firmly rejected.
