Walgett Shire Council has taken out the title of Best Small Council with the Most Outstanding Youth Week Program at the 2025 Local Government Youth Week Awards, held on 7 August.

It’s the second year in a row the council has received state-level recognition, having won Best Local Youth Week Program in 2024.

The award acknowledges the council’s efforts to celebrate and empower young people through an inclusive, youth-led, and culturally rich program that drew more than 2,500 participants across Walgett, Collarenebri, and Lightning Ridge.

This year’s theme - celebrating every young person’s unique strengths and recognising their power as future leaders and decision-makers - was brought to life through a program co-designed by local youth with support from schools, Elders, volunteers, service providers and Council’s Youth Week Committee.
