Walgett Young Woman 2026 — Sophie McGrath ‘shows up’ with Young Woman title

A move to the Walgett district earlier this year has opened unexpected doors for 19-year-old Sophie McGrath, who was named the Walgett Show Society’s Young Woman at this year’s show.

Originally from Parkes, Sophie now lives near Collarenebri where she works as a governess at Somerset, a family-run farm, while studying teaching.

Despite only arriving in the district in February, Sophie said she had quickly fallen in love with the area and its people.

“I love living out here and working with the kids,” she said.

“I think I’d see myself somewhere out here eventually, maybe in a little school or even working in distance education.”

Sophie entered the Young Woman competition alongside fellow entrants Bella Neville and Charlotte Lowry after being encouraged by coordinator Emily Barton. […]
