Walgett’s welcome program arrives in Bourke

The NSW Government has announced an expansion of ‘The Welcome Experience’, an initiative to support essential workers and their families to relocate to regional NSW, and Bourke is one of the newest destinations.

The aim of The Welcome Experience is to attract and welcome key public service workers to rural, and remote NSW by using a local “connector.”

Walgett was one of the original eight locations leading to great success for the community according to Justine Campbell, CEO of Regional Development Australia Orana.

Ms Campbell said The Welcome Experience program had been piloted in Walgett for the past year with Local Connector, Alana Copelin, assisting with the relocation of 57 people to the area.

Among these essential workers involved in The Welcome Experience, is Police Officer Amy Loomes, who now lives and works in Walgett after moving from Sydney with her family in November 2023.[…]
