Walgett Pool’s new rules off to a strong start

New rules at Walgett Memorial Pool got underway last weekend with Walgett Shire Council saying it was a great success.

“What a great day it was,” Walgett Shire Council Mayor Jasen Ramien said.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy this fantastic facility, and a big thank you to the community members who volunteered their time as Community Liaison Officers. Your support made a real difference.”

Mayor Ramien said a small number of children aged under 14 arrived without a parent or guardian, and while other adults kindly stepped in this time, that can’t be relied on.

“Please make sure that if your child plans to visit the pool, they are accompanied by an adult or have someone willing to take responsibility for them so they are not disappointed on arrival,” he said.

He also reminded families that supervision rests with parents and carers, not the lifeguards.

“Remember, the behaviour and supervision of children is the responsibility of their parent or guardian,” he said. “Our lifeguards are there to watch the pool and keep everyone safe in the water.”
