Walgett gathers to honour Jenny Wright

The Walgett community came together last Wednesday to officially open the Jenny Wright Netball Courts, celebrating the life and legacy of a woman whose dedication to netball and young people continues to be felt across the community.
The official opening was held alongside the Jenny Wright Shield, with young players from across the region filling the courts for a day of competition, friendship, and community spirit.
Although the new courts were completed almost a year ago, Walgett Shire Council chose to wait for an occasion that reflected what the facility was built to represent – bringing people together and creating opportunities for young people through sport.
Walgett Shire Mayor Jasen Ramien said there could be no more fitting occasion on which to officially open the courts.
“Jenny Wright understood the importance of those opportunities. She played an important role in netball here in Walgett and in creating opportunities for young people to participate, compete and belong,” Cr Ramien said.
“The fact that her name continues to be carried through the Shield, and now through these courts, speaks to the legacy she left behind.
“A facility like this is about much more than concrete, courts, and lights. It is about the generations of young people who will play here, the friendships that will begin here and the memories that will be made here. That is a legacy worth celebrating.” […]
