Walgett Carp Muster reels in a crowd

Keen anglers headed to the river at Walgett on Saturday for a community carp muster that combined fishing, family fun, and environmental education.

The Walgett Carp Muster was coordinated by Northern Slopes Landcare Association with support from the local community, after the organisation received a $1000 community grant from Walgett Shire Council.

Northern Slopes Landcare Association Local Landcare Coordinator for Narrabri and Walgett, Alison Young said the event attracted about 90 registrations.

“It was a really good day, with lots of kids, and families. It was good to see the kids out enjoying the river,” Ms Young said.

The final tally of fish caught was 158 which weighed in at a total of 220 kilograms. […]
