Variety Bash celebrates 40 years of Outback treks

Bourke was buzzing with the roar of old motors on Monday morning, as the community farewelled the 2024 Bourke to Burketown Variety Bash.

The Variety Bash is now in its 40th year and requires participants to drive cars of at least 25 years around NSW, dispensing fun and finances along the way.

CEO of Variety NSW Tony Warner was part of the group for the first time this year.

“They finally let me on the Bash,” Mr Warner said.

“My vehicle failed its inspection before we left Sydney, so I had to scramble to make sure it was roadworthy.

“It’s doing all right and I’ve been trying not to screw it up or hit a kangaroo, and so far, I haven’t done either. […]
