The Cobar community is in mourning after a mine explosion claimed the lives of two people in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the mine on Endeavour Mine Road in Cobar at about 3.45am on Tuesday after reports two people had been critically injured in a workplace incident.

Officers attached to Central North Police District were told one man had been confirmed dead when they arrived at the scene, while a woman died after being brought back to the surface.

They are yet to be formally identified, though police believe the man is aged in his sixties, the woman in her twenties, and both lived in Cobar. […]
