Thirteen-year-old Trae Wilson is Bourke’s Young Citizen of the Year, honoured for his outstanding contribution to the community.

Trae received an enthusiastic applause when his award was announced at the Australia Day celebrations at the Bourke Swimming Pool.

Trae’s willingness to help others and his upbeat attitude have impressed the many people who interact with Trae in various voluntary roles, and Mayor Barry Hollman described him as an inspiration, who leads by example.

“Trae is a generous-hearted young man with a bright personality who has volunteered at almost every significant organisation in Bourke, including the Bourke Race Club, Bourke and District Children Services, school and sporting events including Remembrance Day, ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Week and Australia Day,” Clr Hollman said.

Bourke business houses including Home Hardware, 2WEB and the Western Herald have also been grateful for Trae’s input, and he is a welcome member of the Saturday Morning Footy Show on 2WEB during the Rugby League season. {…}
