Tommy Stanton elected Mayor of Brewarrina Shire
Councillor Tommy Stanton of Goodooga was elected as Mayor of the Brewarrina Shire at an extraordinary meeting of Bre Shire Council last Wednesday 9th October.
Councillor Stanton defeated former Mayor Vivian Slack-Smith, for a two-year term as Mayor by 7 votes to 2.
Then in a three-way vote, Councillor Vivian Slack Smith was elected Deputy Mayor ahead of two other contenders – Councillors Belinda Colless and Councillor Angelo Pippos.
Councillor Colless was excluded in the first round of voting, and in the second round, Councillor Slack-Smith defeated Councillor Pippos by 5 votes to 4.
Councillor Tommy Stanton thanked the community and his fellow councillors for their support and said he looked forward to doing his best for the residents of Brewarrina Shire.
“I put a lot of thought into taking on the role of Mayor, and I kept asking myself if I was the right person for the job, and after receiving a lot of support from other councillors and the community, I think I will go all right,” he said.
