The ‘loud librarian brings a love of books to Bourke students

Bourke High School librarian Barbara McGuigan describes herself as the ‘loud librarian’ and her passion for books is infectious and irresistible. Barbara is unlikely to tell any of the youngsters in her library to ‘shush’. She wants students to discover their own passion for the written word.
Barbara’s enthusiasm for literature and the impact it can have on the lives of young people has not gone unnoticed. She was recently featured in the NSW Education Department newsletter and her networking with other public schools, the Bourke Public Library, the School Library Association of NSW and WestWords has opened up new opportunities for her students.
Bourke High last year hosted Aboriginal author Lystra Rose and former Australian cricketer and Young Adult fiction writer James Knight. The workshops were shared with students and teachers from six smaller schools in the region.
