The Last Daughter comes to Bourke

A story with profound impact will be shared with the Bourke community when Aunty Brenda Matthews visits town for a special screening of The Last Daughter.

The free community screening will be held at Bourke High School on Monday 7 September, with a 5pm start, followed by a question-and-answer session with Aunty Brenda.

A meal will be provided for registered attendees, while the first 20 people to register will receive a free signed copy of Brenda’s book.

For Kelly Lawson, local Landcare coordinator for Bourke and Cobar, bringing Aunty Brenda to western NSW follows her own experience of seeing the film.

“After seeing it myself, I was quite transformed in terms of making better decisions for myself around my employment and things that were really important to me,” Ms Lawson said.

“Aunty Brenda has a really beautiful story, and it’s sad, but I think many of us need to hear it and have more compassion in our hearts when we decide that we want to work with people and try to understand them a little bit better.”

Ms Lawson said the experience had left “a big imprint” on her and a grant had now made it possible to bring Aunty Brenda out west.

“We can see a lot of value in her message that goes hand in hand with the healing that needs to happen on Country and in people’s hearts and minds.” […]
