The Boomerangs Cricket Club is back in action and fired up to be a major influence in the Bourke Senior Cricket Competition this summer.

After a ten-year absence from the competition, a few lofty thoughts of rejuvenating the club were kicked around by a few of the boys, and before they knew it – the club had reformed.

Gavin Gibbs, who has been part of the Boomerangs since he came to Bourke in 1992 , said the idea came about when some of the young fellas were sitting around listening to the older fellas talking about the days when their fathers were playing, and what it meant to be part of the original Boomerangs club.

“Before we knew it, we had twenty guys interested, shirts designed and ordered, and a committee organised,” Gavin said.

“The boys have really owned this – the enthusiasm and the emotion of the Boomerangs is back - it goes deep into the soul.
