The Ronny Gibbs 7s gala event has wrapped up for another year and true to form, Ronny was full of praise and gratitude to the Bourke community, his sponsors and his team for making this year’s 30th anniversary such a success.

The highlight of the week was the unveiling of the Ronny ‘Rambo’ Gibbs sign at Bourke’s Davidson Oval, honouring Ronny’s contribution to western NSW and to Rugby League out west. Demonstrating once again his big heart, Ronny said his highlight was seeing the happy faces of hundreds of children taking part.

Children from schools all over the western region, including Walgett, Warren, Lightning Ridge, Cobar, Nyngan, Baradine and Wilcannia took part in the footy and netball competitions despite rain and soggy playing conditions.

“The games on Wednesday and Thursday were unbelievable,” Ronny said. “The students were excellent, the schools that supported them, and all the staff, all of my team that helped out and ran the days were unbelievable.

“On top of that, Bourke Bowling Club, 2WEB, and the support they gave me for the gala dinner, it was magnificent. I think we raised around about $12–$13,000, and after we pay the bills, I think we should be in front so we can get a start and get ready for next year. […]
