Recently elected to the role of Bourke Shire Mayor, Councillor Lachlan Ford is now using the Bourke Shire Council Facebook page to deliver a regular video called “Minutes with the Mayor.”

“I’m thinking of promoting Minutes with the Mayor on a weekly or biweekly basis,” Councillor Ford said.

“It’s mostly about discussing issues that we’re having in Bourke, and the good things that have happened within our community from a council point of view.”

For Councillor Ford’s first Minutes with the Mayor, he touched on the controversial demolition of the approaches to the North Bourke Bridge.

“Obviously, there’s a bit of contention within the community as to what’s going to occur and why,” Mr Ford said.

“From a council perspective, we understand the heritage value of the bridge and realise that people have an emotional tie to it.

Councillor Ford said that the bridge had been an important part of many people’s lives and the thought of any deconstruction at the bridge was hard to accept.

“But we are really between a rock and a hard place,” he said.
