Sydneysider wins wool bale rolling crown

Sydney man Will Jansen has won the Bourke Individual Wool Bale Rolling 50 metre sprint in his first attempt – in a time of 34.4 seconds.
Will claimed the title and the $1,000 first prize in a split-second win over locals Aaron Coyne (34.5 seconds) and Sam Canty (34.78 seconds).
No one was able to break the time of former police officer Scott Brown who won last year in a time of 32.03 seconds just ahead of Travis Pocock (32.49 seconds) and Sam Canty (33.28 seconds).
The Bourke Rotary wool bale rolling competition on Easter Saturday has become one of the most popular traditions during the Back O’Bourke Easter Festival and this year a huge crowd of more than 500 people turned out to watch the event.
While the competitors huffed and puffed behind the bales, the enthusiastic crowd made sure their efforts were appreciated and once again, Easter Saturday got off to a rollicking start with one of Bourke’s signature events.
Bourke Rotary Secretary/Treasurer Lisa Crothers said the club was extremely pleased with the event this year, especially the large numbers nominating in the men’ events and the big crowd. […]
