Super Fours to deliver world-leading prize money

Lightning Ridge will host one of the richest bowls tournaments in the world in April, with the Super Fours set to deliver a record-breaking first prize in the famous outback opal town.

The $130,000 tournament will be held in Lightning Ridge from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 April, run as a fours event across three days.

With a massive $80,000 first prize, it is believed to be the largest first prize of any bowls competition globally.

The tournament was announced last year during the Calcutta night at the famous Black Opal Tournament, in front of a large crowd, with the announcement streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.

Club CEO Scott Bailey made the announcement, while Bowls Manager Trent Jacobson outlined the finer details and event itinerary.

“The tournament received immediate attention,” Mr Jacobson said. “I received over 20 expressions of interest on the night it was announced, including from some of the game’s biggest names from across the world of bowls.”

While all clubs were encouraged to apply, only 24 invitations were available.[…]
