Success for Brewarrina’s Chris Frail

Brewarrina’s Chris Frail has been recognised as the 2026 Construction and Energy Student of the Year at the TAFE NSW Gili Awards.
The annual awards celebrates the achievements of 14 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, and programs across the state, with Mr Frail travelling to Sydney last week to accept the honour after being recognised for his achievements in the plumbing trade.
Mr Frail recently completed his plumbing qualification as a mature age apprentice through TAFE NSW Tamworth while continuing to work for Brewarrina Shire Council. He has worked for the council for 15 years and said he intends to stay with the organisation.
Selected from across the state, the TAFE NSW 2026 Gili Awards recipients highlight and celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as the innovative programs and dedicated TAFE NSW staff who empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities every day.
Mr Frail said the award was not just about his own success, but also about showcasing the opportunities available in rural communities.
“What it does is put the Tamworth TAFE and its programs on the map, as well as bringing attention to the plumbing trade,” he said. […]
