Stars align at Bourke High

A new program at Bourke High School is giving Aboriginal girls a dedicated space to connect, build confidence, and work towards their future goals.

Stars Foundation began partnering with Bourke High School in Term 3 this year, bringing its successful mentoring program to local students and addressing a gap in support for the school’s female students.

Bourke High School’s Executive Principal Trent Graham said the arrival of Stars was an important addition to the school.

“It’s fantastic having the Stars Foundation on board,” Mr Graham said. “For several years, the girls have missed out on some of the opportunities provided to our male students through the Clontarf Academy.

The Bourke program is being delivered locally by Stars Program Coordinator Kellie Stuart and mentor Adrienne Richards, providing students with a safe and supportive environment within the school.

“Kellie and Adrienne have already made some very positive connections with the girls which is exciting to see in such a short time,” Mr Graham said.

For student Grace, one of the biggest benefits has already been the opportunity to strengthen relationships with other students.

“I have really enjoyed getting to know the other female students more and having a safe space to communicate about anything that comes up,” she said. […]
