Spruce up for Ridge Visitor Centre

The Lightning Ridge Visitor Information Centre is sporting a fresh new look following renovations aimed at creating a more welcoming space for visitors and locals.

Most of the work at the Morilla Street centre has now been completed, with the renovation giving the facility a more modern appearance as Walgett Shire Council prepares for the 2027 visitor season.

A small number of finishing touches will soon be completed, including plans to replace the old door area with windows and consideration of further improvements to the outside of the building.

Inside, the centre’s retail offering is also being refreshed, with staff trialling new merchandise and stock items that show off the best of the Ridge and its famous opal mining industry.

Walgett Shire Council says the changes are already attracting a positive response from people coming through the doors, while reminding Lightning Ridge residents the centre is not just for tourists. […]
