A new flock of life-sized wire spoonbills has been installed at the Walgett town entrance, marking the latest achievement of the Walgett Art Group following its two-day sculpture workshop earlier this year.

The workshop, funded through Walgett Shire Council’s 356 Community Assistance Scheme, was led by artist Jobella Bennett, whose wire sculptures have been exhibited across NSW. Over the two days, locals learned to shape mesh and wire into elegant spoonbill forms, pieces that now welcome travellers arriving from the Coonamble side of town.

Walgett Art Group coordinator and founding member Anne Murray was onsite as the sculptures were installed and said seeing the community’s work displayed publicly was a proud moment, particularly as this artform was something new for the group. […]
