Spar Bourke wins top honour

The Bourke Spar store has been awarded the Spar Australia Store of the Year award. Owners Chandra Sekkar Kollipara and Ramya Kollipara were presented with the award at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday night, topping the rankings of 300 Spar stores Australia-wide.

The award is presented to the best performing store in the country in operations, customer service, presentation, range, community engagement and innovation, but it represents a lot more than that. It is a testament to the Kollipara family’s commitment to Bourke and overcoming enormous difficulties to keep that promise.

Chandra and Ramya took over the Spar Bourke store in 2017. Two days after Christmas, 2021, the store was completely destroyed by fire, caused by an electrical fault.

Chandra lost his livelihood that night, but despite his loss, made a promise to the Bourke community that he would stay in the town and rebuild. […]
