Smoking good time at Walgett Show

The smell of slow-cooked barbecue will fill the air at the Walgett Show this weekend as Whitey’s Meat Smoking Competition returns, offering a sizzling $5,000 in prize money for the best brisket, chicken, ribs, and even homemade smokers.

Coordinated by Scott White from Walgett, the competition has drawn strong interest, with plenty of nominations already.

Scott said the event is all about good food, great fun, and a bit of friendly rivalry.

“The competition starts at 6am, or anytime that the smoker feels that he’s going to be competitive, and cooking will be completed at 6pm,” Scott said.

“That gives everyone plenty of time to smoke their meats how they like them.

“We will supply all the ribs, the chickens, and the brisket, as long as the competitors supply their own rubs, flavourings, and utensils.” […]
