Local artist Jenny Greentree is set to launch her new exhibition, “Showcasing Bourke,” at the Back O’Bourke Gallery as part of the Back O’Bourke Easter Festival, beginning tomorrow –Friday 18 April.

The exhibition coincides with the festival’s 10-year celebration, for which Jenny has created a vibrant display of the region’s unique landscape.

“I’ve embraced a range of mediums, styles, and techniques to highlight the diversity of our area, creating a display of sights, colours, and textures that I hope will amaze and delight our visitors,” Jenny said.

A highlight of the exhibition is a pastel artwork featuring the Jandra, Bourke’s popular riverboat.

“I’m often asked if I have a painting of the Jandra, and after snapping some beautiful photos during an evening cruise, I created what I feel is the perfect signature artwork for ‘Showcasing Bourke’ because the Jandra is our very popular tourist attraction,” Jenny said.

“The artwork captures the boat cruising on still water, with breathtaking reflections of the redgums highlighted by the last rays of sunshine”.

The exhibition will also feature another iconic landmark – the North Bourke Bridge, and Jenny is offering a limited number of collector’s editions of the North Bourke Bridge, which she plans to embellish over time.

The Easter Festival North Bourke Bridge release is a hand-embellished reproduction where Jenny has added unique touches using paint, ink, pastel, and even soil, adding detail so that the artwork becomes ‘one of a kind’.

“These pieces are exclusive and rare, capturing the history and timeless charm of the old bridge we cherish,” Jenny said.

In addition to these pieces, Jenny has been developing a new technique using Pan Pastels, allowing her to express the essence of the outback in the style of the impressionists, with a touch of cubism.

“I love the way that applying bold strokes and fragments of colour and light is perfect for capturing the atmosphere and movement of the landscape,” Jenny explains.

“One of the artworks was inspired by a drive to photograph wildflowers on the Walkdens Plain, where a group of inquisitive emus decided to investigate what I was doing. They ended up featuring in the painting.”

Jenny’s new works will be displayed alongside her existing collection at the gallery, creating a vibrant tapestry that tells the story of the captivating Bourke landscape.
