“I think it was a great meeting with the Premier, he’s in touch with our needs of rural and remote NSW.”

With that assessment, Walgett Shire Council Mayor Jasen Ramien set the tone for what regional leaders described as one of the most constructive discussions held with the State Government in years.

Four Western NSW councils again met with Premier Chris Minns last week to address escalating youth crime and community safety concerns.

The meeting brought together representatives from Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, and Coonamble councils, alongside the Premier, the Secretary of the Premier’s Department, and Member for Barwon Roy Butler.

Council leaders said the Premier demonstrated a clear understanding of the pressures faced by regional communities and the significant impact ongoing youth crime is having on families, services, and frontline workers across the far west. […]
