Scott Brown wins $1,000 wool bale rolling prize

Scott Brown of Bourke was grinning widely on Saturday morning after claiming the $1,000 prize for the Men’s 50 metre individual wool bale rolling sprint on Easter Saturday.

The men’s individual sprint is normally a hotly contested event and this year there was a one-thousand-dollar prize-winner’s payout up for grabs – the biggest purse ever for the competition.

Local police sergeant Scott Brown took home the prize, with a time of 33.75 seconds, with Sam Canty a very close second, with a time of 34.06 seconds, taking home a tidy purse of $250.

The Back O’Bourke wool bale rolling competition on Easter Saturday has become one of the most popular traditions during the Back O’Bourke Easter Festival and this year more than 500 people turned out to watch the event.

In the Men’s Team event over 100 metres, the Bates Boys, made up of Sam Canty, John Fetuani, Daniel Young and Tiopira Kopa, got the glory with a time of 59.80 seconds.

Runners up were Team 42 – Greg Simmonds, Clay Simmonds, Liam Brodrick and Oompah –with a time of 64.80. […]
