Students from Lightning Ridge and Walgett received education scholarships in Sydney last week at the 2024 Proudly Public! Awards.
Local students to received scholarships included Ruby Ellen Bamford from Lightning Ridge Central School who received the Waratah Education Foundation Primary Scholarship.
Walgett Community College also had two scholarship winners at the event – Lirra Peters-Dennis who received the Andrew Casey Indigenous Scholarship and Youen Walford who received the Connected Communities Scholarship
NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar said the scholarships could be a game changer for these students and change their life trajectory.
“Our world-class public education system empowers our students and can be an equaliser within our society – that’s why these scholarships are so important to our students who face disadvantage,” Mr Dizdar said.
Mr Reardon said the demand for scholarships was growing and the charity was always seeking new supporters.
