Sally Davis and Penny Gibbs join Local Health Board
Bourke Shire Councillor, mother of three and local businesswoman, Sally Davis, is arguably one of the busiest people in town - and she’s just added another string to her bow.
Sally has been appointed as a board member of the Western NSW Local Health District along with Dubbo woman Penny Gibbs.
Sally said she applied to be a board member to bring health service issues affecting her community to the table.
“It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to work with the Western NSW Health board,” Sally said.
“Health is a huge issue, our western health district is a huge area, and I am keen to be a part of bringing issues in the western region to the forefront and have representation on this side of the district - that’s very important to me.
“It was an application process and there were a few people who asked if I would be interested, so I sat on it for a while to consider everything else that’s happening and then decided to go through the application process.
“Some people would say I’m mad, but I have always believed that if you want to contribute to your community you need to put yourself out there. I understand not everyone is comfortable doing that, but I have said to my children that sitting back and complaining about a situation is one thing.
“You can whinge and moan, but the best thing is to put yourself forward, be constructive, don’t come to the table with a complaint, come with a possible solution.
“It might not always work but it is about being a part of the community and making a contribution,” Sally said.
Sally was born and raised in western NSW, and for more than 30 years has worked in Credit Management and Administration for various companies. She and her husband Robert own and run R and R Motors in Bourke.
Since 2004, Sally has served as a councillor on the Bourke Shire and held the role of Deputy Mayor for two years. She is also a committee member of the Western Lands Advisory Committee and has been an active member in both executive and committee member roles of a few community organisations.
Penny Gibbs is a proud Wiradjuri woman and the General Manager of Adult Disability Services at Westhaven, a not-for-profit, disability service provider, supporting people to live life the way they choose.
Ms Gibbs combines her leadership with an innovative approach to front line service delivery. Her passion is for positive change for people and their communities. She also has 10 years’ experience in the human services sector.
Western NSW Local Health District Board Chair, Matthew Irvine, said he was delighted that both Ms Davis and Ms Gibbs have joined the Local Health District Board.
“I have no doubt their unique skillsets will add tremendous value to the board.
“As incoming board members already entrenched in our communities, Mrs Davis and Miss Gibbs have the passion and experience to successfully support the board’s oversight of health services for our local communities now and into the future,” Mr Irvine said.
