Roads Minister tours the Outback

Member for Barwon Roy Butler and Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison have been travelling around the Outback paying particular attention to the roads and recent flood damage. 

Minister Aitchison and Mr Buter called into 2WEB’s Bourke studios and spoke to Rod Corfe about their very eventful trip around the back country west and south of Bourke and then across to Brewarrina.

Mr Butler said inspecting roads had been part of the journey, something familiar to the Minister who was previously a transport operator in the bus industry.

“Minister Aitchison knows these roads and has been on these roads before, which is excellent,” Mr Butler said. 

“Some people coming into the role as a minister have grown up in politics and they haven’t had a real life.

“In contrast, Jenny has had time driving the roads and running a business, and understands the distances involved, because she’s done it before.” 

During their visit to Bourke, Minister Aitchison offered congratulations to Bourke Shire Council for the work council has been doing to improve the local road system. 

“I must give a great shout out to Council,” Ms Aitchison said.

“We came in from Louth to 2WEB and you can see Bourke Shire Council has been doing a lot of work. […]
