Rhonda clocks up 40 years dispensing in the Ridge

White’s Pharmacy is a household name in the Lightning Ridge district, and rightly so, after being the sole chemist in the town for 40 years.
Local pharmacist Rhonda White opened the doors at White’s Pharmacy on 7th February 1983.
However, the first script was filled two days earlier on 5th February as the prescribing doctor did not have the required medication and asked Rhonda if she would do it.
“It was crazy, we were still organising the shop and installing shelving, and I had to dash home and get the typewriter. It has been like that ever since,” Rhonda said.
Rhonda White arrived in Lightning Ridge when she was just 13 years of age. Her father moved the family to the town, and she attended high school in Walgett, finishing her last two years in Tamworth.
At university, her subject was music, which is her passion, and after a year of study Rhonda realised that she loved music too much to make a career out of it.
“You are a big fish when you play anything in a small town,” Rhonda said. “In Sydney, though, I was a tiny fish in a very big ocean of kids who have been performing at Eisteddfods all their lives and exposed to all that kind of thing. I didn’t think I could make it in the music world and did not want to lose my passion and love for it.”
