Ray Gun wins Bre Bush Volleyball event

The winners were Bre teachers team Raygun’s Revenge – David Kerrigan, Shaun Graham, Liam Rose, Chris English, Lindsay Gray, Tania Monroy, with Bre RSL President Tim Slack-Smith.

Anyone thinking we had heard the last of ‘Ray Gun’, the Australian break dancer from the Paris Olympics, was not at the Bre RSL Bush Volleyball event on Saturday, where her namesake team took out the overall prize on the day.

Made up from staff from Brewarrina Central School, volleyball team ‘Ray Gun’s Revenge’ were triumphant at the makeshift sand courts which transformed the Brewarrina RSL car park into a temporary beach.

Besides the glory of victory, the team took home the $2000 prize money for their win.

Naya Jeffries, who helped organise the event on behalf of the Bre RSL said it was a great day out for all who attended, whether they were playing or not.

“We ended up having nine teams compete and plenty of people went to the effort to dress up which made it even more entertaining,” she said.

“Ray Gun’s Revenge had a random collection of wigs on which was very colourful.

“We had ‘Beercelona’, a team of backpackers that are working on a local farm, and it was good to see them make the effort to join in. As backpackers, they are probably familiar with Barcelona and beer!”

In the final, Beercelona and Ray Gun’s Revenge went head-to-head with Ray Gun’s Revenge edging out the opposition and taking home the win at the 2024 Brewarrina Bush Volleyball Tournament by just one point in a thrilling match.[…]
