Quokkas found in Bourke and Brewarrina!

Children and families in Bourke, Brewarrina and Cobar were treated to a rare live concert experience last week when The Quokkas, a five-piece children’s music group from Newcastle, toured the region spreading their message of joy, inclusiveness and acceptance through song.

The visit was organised by CatholicCare Wilcannia–Forbes as part of its Targeted Early Intervention program, led by Belinda Bell, who said the idea came from wanting to give children in remote areas a live music experience. The concerts were a hit in every town, drawing crowds of children, parents and school groups.

“Not often do children in those areas get to see an actual live performance and have someone come out to the community,” she said.

Ms Bell said the band jumped at the chance to head out west.

“When I reached out, I spoke with Nick Gill, who is the guitarist and he was absolutely amazing,” she said. “They nicknamed it their ‘rural mini tour’, and none of them had actually been out this way before. They loved it and had the best time.” […]
