Lightning Ridge TAFE had a free open-day lunch last Thursday to promote courses on offer to the community for 2023.

As one of Australia’s leading providers of education and training, TAFE NSW has industry-qualified teachers bringing up-to-date, real-world skills directly to the classroom.

Currently running in the Ridge is the Hospitality Course, which includes the Responsible Service of Alcohol and Responsible Gaming components. With this accreditation, students can gain employment in the hotel and gaming industries.

The next available face-to-face courses include Getting Skilled with Drone Essentials, which includes mapping and drone operations, a Backhoe/Loader and Dozer Operators Course, Agricultural Chemical Skillset Course, and a 1st Aid Course. The first three courses are free, and First Aid has a fee.

The Drone Operator course has been valuable for those who work in agriculture and live on the land. Drones can take pictures, videos, and other images from above, and drone usage is helpful for crop scouting or checking on livestock. Drones are also used to apply pesticides and herbicides to crops. Drones are easy to use and can help those working in agriculture.

The Backhoe/Loader and Dozer course can open the doors to employment locally and nationwide. All earthmoving, construction and mining industries require this certification. This course teaches the basic skills and knowledge needed for backhoe, loader and dozer operations in the construction and mining industries.

The Agricultural Chemical Skillset Course qualifies the student with skills to manage chemicals, handle, apply and transport chemicals, perform chemical audits, and use sprayers, wipers and applicators.

The First Aid Course is in two sections –CPR skills and providing First Aid in any setting. Anyone who works in day-care or preschool will need this course.

Call 131601 or see Facebook at TAFE NSW Lightning Ridge for further information.
