Old Boys celebrate 30th anniversary of first premiership

The Bourke Old Boys team was narrowly defeated by the young Bre-Bourke Barbarians side 38-36 in a see-sawing match at Bourke’s Davidson Oval on Saturday.
The traditional Easter grudge match was a popular event, with about 30 players turning up to play for the Bourke Old Boys and good numbers for the Barbarians’ side.
A minute’s silence was observed before the main game for former Bourke Ram Steve Butler who played in the 1995 grand final team and for Jimmy Carr who passed away in March 2025.
The Barbarians side was bolstered by the Brewarrina boys who came across in big numbers for a taste of a friendly pre-season match.
Organiser and former Bourke Ram Tony Bennett said that it was a close game where the wisdom, guile and strategy of the Old Boys shone through but was let down by tiring bodies. […]
