Obituary — Sister Mary Fidelis showed God’s love to others

One of Mother Theresa’s most well-loved Missionaries of Charity – Sister Mary Fidelis passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 causing an outpouring of grief amongst the Bourke families with whom she worked.

A funeral service for Sister Fidelis was held at St Michael’s Cathedral at Wagga last Friday 24 April, followed by interment in the Wagga Wagga Lawn cemetery.

Several Bourke residents travelled down to Wagga to pay their last respects to a Sister who was seen as a caring and compassionate missionary during her time in Bourke.

One of them was Sandra Kelly, who was just two years old when she first met Sister Mary Fidelis. One of a family of 11, Sandra was taken to church and scripture classes every Sunday and this very special ‘Indian Nun’ became an important person throughout Sandra’s childhood. […]
