Another chapter in the colourful history of the North Bourke pub is about to close - and a new one will soon begin, with the popular watering spot up for sale.

Owner Lindsay Curry has decided to retire and has put the Northy on the market, with an asking price of $1.5 million dollars.

It doesn’t mean the pub will be lost to the Bourke community, however. Agent Hugo Weston from Savills Real Estate said the property was being sold as a going concern and the Northy would continue operating.

The new owners will be taking on a business with a long history in Bourke. The North Bourke Hotel was built in 1890 and was a popular drinking spot for farmers, graziers, shearers, drovers, and locals heading in and out of Bourke.

In 2010, tragedy struck when the Northy was destroyed by fire, and for more than a decade was little more than a ruin on a vacant site. Hopes were fading that it would ever re-open until former local, businessman Lindsay Curry, bought the property in 2021 and rebuilt it from the ground up. […]
