Nominations for the 2026 Brewarrina Shire Australia Day Awards are now open, giving residents the chance to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of people, events and organisations across the region.

Mayor Tommy Stanton said the annual awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge the individuals and groups who make a real difference in their communities.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the exceptional achievements and contributions of people, events and organisations from across our whole shire, including Brewarrina, Goodooga, Weilmoringle, Gongolgon and Angledool,” Cr Stanton said.

This year the council has introduced a new category, Community Event of the Year, which will recognise the many volunteer organisations and committees that bring residents together.

Cr Stanton said councillors agreed it was important that these groups also have the opportunity to be acknowledged. […]
