The lengthy search for a new vet for the Kidman Way Veterinary practice is over.

Lauren Leicester’s love of adventure and animals made her the ideal candidate for the job.

Lauren hails from New Zealand but has spent a large part of her life travelling and the distance from Bourke to her hometown of Invercargill is not one she finds daunting – in fact, it was part of the attraction of the job.

Lauren is now the principal vet at the Bourke and Cobar surgeries, and she said she was looking forward to embracing her new community after the big move from New Zealand with her husband Jeremy Hall and their three cats and dog.

“I have always enjoyed travelling and new experiences, even though I know it has sometimes been a bit of a worry for my Mum!” Lauren said.

“But my family knows that whatever I do I give it my all, so they are happy I have made this decision.

“It’s a long way from Invercargill down on the south coast of New Zealand, where it’s currently snowing!

“It’s a lot flatter and warmer, but that doesn’t worry me at all. I see this as a great opportunity,” she said.

A career as a vet in a country practice wasn’t always Lauren’s dream. Originally, she had her sights set on a career working with more exotic animals, specifically primates.
