New management team at the Club in the Scrub

The Grawin Opal Miners Sports and Recreation Club – better known far and wide as the “Club in the Scrub” – has welcomed a new management team.

Peter Cook has been appointed Secretary Manager, joining Alisha Innes, who has taken on the role of Bar Manager.

Mr Cook said the opportunity came about unexpectedly after moving to the area.

“I moved to Lightning Ridge about nine weeks ago, at the age of 66, to meet up with a couple of mates who are opal miners at Grawin,” he said.

“They were delayed getting here because of personal issues, but I came anyway because this was my planned destination and I’d been trying to get here for some time.”
