Walgett Shire Council has officially confirmed Andrew Brown as its new General Manager, following a competitive and thorough recruitment process.

Mr Brown has been acting in the role since March this year after the resignation of former General Manager, Megan Dixon, and is set to begin his permanent five-year term on August 25th. His leadership over the past several months has helped steer the organisation forward, with Council crediting him for reinvigorating momentum and progressing several key projects during his interim tenure.

With a wealth of experience across both local government and the university sector, Mr Brown previously served as Director of Corporate and Commercial Services at Narrabri Shire Council.

He also held senior positions at Armidale Regional Council, managing portfolios that included governance, IT, and human resources. Beyond council chambers, he’s worked at the University of New England as Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Director of Integrated Services, lectured in Criminology, and contributed to academic research into rural governance and local government structures.

While his initial arrival in Walgett was meant to be temporary, the experience made a lasting impression. […]
