Proud family and community members witnessed the young adults of Walgett Community College High School celebrate with style at the school’s inaugural NAIDOC Formal on Thursday, July 3rd.

Senior Leader, Community Engagement, Doreen Peters said the event showcased students’ skills, knowledge, and talents, and gave them an opportunity to dress up and be formally presented to the community.

Fourteen students from Year 9 to Year 12 jumped at the chance to help plan and run the event, aligned to subject outcomes.

“Drawing on the strength of their Elders, at home, in school, and across the community, these students, coming into adulthood, gave their community a positive vision of their legacy, confirming the future is in safe hands,” Ms Peters said. 

“Special guests were deeply impressed by the pride and maturity with which the students presented themselves.”

Guests included NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) president Raymond Ingrey, Vicki Fernando Bowen (representing NSW Department of Education Executive Director, Aboriginal Education and Communities, Michele Hall) and Community Engagement Officer, NSW AECG North West 1 Region Community Engagement Officer Nina Sands (representing NSW AECG Vice-President and Walgett AECG President Anne Dennis).
