The Brewarrina community gathered at the Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council on Monday to have their faces painted by StormCo before coming together for the NAIDOC March.
There was a great turnout, with community members marching down Bathurst Street to the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum, which hosted the official NAIDOC Week opening.
Aunty Mary Waites welcomed everyone with a Welcome to Country, joined by Anton Coffey, who delivered the welcome in language. Alice Gordon then gave her “50 Years of Deadly” speech to begin the celebrations. The RFS Area Commander Daniel Bush also attended and delivered a lovely speech.
Everyone enjoyed sharing stories and celebrating culture at the “50 Years of Deadly” NAIDOC gathering. A lovely lunch was provided and cooked by the RFS, and activities included weaving, johnny cake making, giant games, boomerang painting, artwork and many other activities. […]
