Police are investigating a spate of suspected deliberately lit fires in Bourke last weekend.

Fire crews attended four suspicious fire, the first on the reserve adjacent to the wharf at around 1:35pm last Saturday. Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in some bushland.

Shortly after they attended another fire further down Mitchell Lane and adjacent to St Ignatius Parish School with the flames coming within close proximity to the convent.

The third fire was also in this vicinity, with the fourth fire coming very close to the Bethlehem building on Meek Street.

Another seemingly deliberately lit fire occurred adjacent to the wharf on Monday afternoon with firefighters and police attending at approximately 4:05pm.

In response to the incidents, Bourke police have ramped up their regular patrols and are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the area during the time of the fires.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding these suspicious fires to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual behaviour to the police.

Investigations will continue.

Anyone with information on the fires is urged to contact Bourke police on (02) 6870 0899.
