One of Bourke’s well-known residents is returning to her hometown to take up a new position with the Bourke Shire Council.

Melanie Milgate will start in her new role as Economic Development Manager in early September and said she was thrilled to be coming home to help shape the future of the town.

“I’m very excited to be heading home,” Mel said. “The Bourke Council has allowed me the opportunity to take on the role and I am really looking forward to working alongside those already involved in the continued growth of the Shire.

“I have lived in Tamworth for almost five years after I left Outback Mornings on 2WEB.”

While in Tamworth, Melanie worked with the NSW Aboriginal Lands Council the compliance and governance procedures relating to the Aboriginal Land Rights Act.

“The role gave me the opportunity to grow professionally, and I hope that this new role will enable me to use those skills as Economic Development Manager,” Melanie said.

“I look forward to the role, be accountable and realise any opportunities as they arise,” Mel said.
