The invitation has gone out to all new Bourke residents — come and meet your new neighbours.

The annual Welcome to Bourke event is on Wednesday, March 15 and anyone who has relocated to Bourke since March 2022 is encouraged to come along and see what the town has to offer.

The welcome night is an annual tradition in Bourke and aims to ease newcomers into the culture and lifestyle of their new hometown.

Bourke Shire Council General Manager, Leonie Brown, said she hoped as many businesses, organisations, sporting and social groups would play their part in the welcome, showing new residents the wide range of support, opportunities and social connections that made the Bourke community tick.

“It’s a great opportunity for residents, new and old, to learn what Bourke is all about,” she said.

“We hope the Welcome night will demonstrate that this is a great place to live — and to stay.

“The event is open to any resident who has moved here since last March, and anyone else in the community, to meet new people and learn more about the wide range of services and businesses and community organisations based in Bourke.

“The organisations are there to show what they can provide so that people can participate in this community and enjoy the lifestyle here,” Mrs Brown said.

The Welcome to Bourke will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre Cafe, overlooking the billabong, from 7pm.
