MC Rulla passes the mic to Bourke kids

Finding your voice is at the heart of hip hop, and that’s exactly what young people at Yellowbelly were encouraged to do during a weekend workshop with MC Rulla.
On Saturday local kids had the chance to learn with popular hip-hop musician Rulla Kelly-Mansell, a Tulampanga Kooparoona Niara Pakana man from Tasmania, brought to Bourke by music company Bad Apples.
Yellowbelly co-founder Alex Clarke said the music label had heard of the work the studio had been doing in Bourke and wanted to collaborate.
“First Nations-led, Bad Apples is a pretty good label, and they’ve got big artists, ARIA-winning artists. It’s good that they invested time for these regional challenges, for these kids who really don’t have much happening. It was good to open the door for them,” Alex said.
“It’s important that the kids get to connect with these artists. That’s the big thing of bringing Rulla out, that he really inspires and helps these kids, give knowledge and really connect. […]
